Legacy 800
The introduction of the 800RB in 1980 cemented Gallien-Krueger as a leader in Solid State bass amplification, with its signature growl, clarity, power, and features that were ahead of its time. The new Legacy Series of heads captures that same aesthetic while adding something all its own. From clean, clear, biting tones, to saturated overdrive, the Legacy series has it all. Coming in 500, 800, and 1200 watt class D models, The Legacy Heads are ready for the biggest stages, the smallest living rooms, and everything in between.
To improve performance and reliability, the Legacy Series uses a unique interconnection system that eliminates problems that can develop over time from constant vibration and temperature extremes that gear is subjected to with heavy use. Using circuitboards with gold plated connectors, rather than cables with standard tin connectors, this type of construction delivers a more pure, reliable sound. Features include GK’s classic 4 band EQ, Overdrive complete with tone shaping, additional voicing filters such as “Bump”, “Contour”, and “Presence”, Balanced DI with Pre and Post EQ, an Effects Loop, Aux and Headphone connections, and Load capacity selection, to deliver optimum power into 2, 2.7, 4 and 8ohm cabinet configurations.
To get the best match between your instrument and the Legacy Gallien-Krueger have included an adjustable input trim control. When this is adjusted so the clip light only flashes occasionally you have the perfect setup for your instrument.
Gallien-Krueger have avoided putting a sound effect into the amplifier that may be out of style next year. Instead we use two selected field effect stages configured to optimize the Gate Induced Valve Effect (G.I.V.E.) first pioneered in the 800RB. This can be adjusted to fatten up your sound or to produce heavy overdrive. We have added an edge control to help you shape the sound to your situation.
Legacy heads come with a complete patch bay. The balanced DI has selectable Pre/Post and ground lift switches. Phones and Aux In are 1/8” jacks to accommodate the most common jacks used for these features. Tuner, Footswitch, Send and Return are all ¼” to better accommodate these connections. The included Footswitch turns the Overdrive Chanel on and off.
Specs

Controls
- Input
- ¼” analog input to receive instrument signal
- Trim
- Attenuates the level of signal coming in from the ¼” input. *The default position is full clockwise. Lower settings should only be used if clipping is audible or the Trim knob indicator flashes red more than occasionally as the instrument is played aggressively.
- Drive
- Adjusts the amount of saturation when Overdrive is active.
- Level
- Adjusts the output level when the Overdrive circuit is active.
Eq

- Hi Mids
- Boosts or cuts hi-mid frequencies centered at 1kHz. +6dB/-10dB
- Treble
- Boosts or cuts treble frequencies centered at 7 kHz. +/-14dB
Toggle switches
- Drive
- Engages the Overdrive curcuit when placed in the up position. LED indicator is lit when Overdrive is active.
- Edge
- Adjusts the high freq. response of the Overdrive circuit.
- Bump
- Applies low frequency enhancement when placed in the up position.
- Contour
- Reduces mid frequencies and boosts low and high frequencies when placed in the up position.
- Presence
- Applies high frequency enhancement when placed in the up position.
- Mute
- Mutes main speaker and all other outputs except the tuner output. LED indicator is lit when Mute is enabled.
Outputs
- AC Input
- The detachable power cord attaches here.
