Nearly 90 years ago, Josef Tremel set up his carpentry workshop in the small village of Schwürbitz, laying the foundation for a deep-rooted passion for fine woods and precision craftsmanship. That passion got passed down through the family—first to his son and then to the next generation. Growing up surrounded by wood shavings and building his own creations, it was only natural to follow the same path. By 1992, the skills were dialed in, and the master craftsman’s certificate made it official.

The mission behind each build is to fuse years of playing experience, deep tonewood knowledge, and masterful craftsmanship to create basses that embody the perfect balance of tone, feel, and aesthetics. These instruments are more than just tools—they’re extensions of the player, designed with ergonomics, playability, and sustainability at their core.

The evolution of Franz Bassguitars never stops. Every design is constantly refined and pushed further, redefining what a bass can be. Collaborations with pro bassists bring real-world insight into the process, shaping instruments that don’t just deliver incredible tone—they feel alive in the hands of the player.

Each bass from this workshop is a true one-of-a-kind, built entirely by hand to match the player’s vision. Every detail matters—from the carefully chosen tonewoods, sourced sustainably and as locally as possible, to the masterful craftsmanship that brings it all together. With top-tier materials and an uncompromising approach to build quality, these basses don’t just play great—they deliver a tone that’s powerful, resonant, and unmistakably alive.
