Holger Stonjek is a man that lives and breathes bass guitars and has been building basses since 1986. He has done it with such massive success that Sandberg is now one of the biggest brands in the bass community.

The focus from Sandberg has always been to produce high-quality instruments at an accessible price point. Hence you get a great and well-balanced bass for the money every single time when you choose Sandberg.

The body made from solid ash, this baby is lightweight enough to sling over your shoulder for a long set, but sturdy enough to take some serious playing. Ash is known for its tonal properties – it gives you that punchy, bright sound that cuts through the mix with ease. The ash body provides excellent sustain and a lively resonance, making each note you play stand out with clarity and precision.

This VM4 features a rosewood fingerboard, which is a fantastic choice for several reasons. Rosewood is renowned for its smooth feel, allowing for effortless playability and a comfortable grip. Sonically, rosewood offers a warm, rich tone with a bit of natural compression. This complements the bright, punchy characteristics of the ash body, resulting in a well-balanced sound that’s both articulate and full-bodied.

Topping it off, the neck is made from maple, adding another layer of tonal excellence. Maple is known for its stability and brightness, providing a snappy, responsive feel that makes fast runs and intricate playing techniques a breeze.

The VM4 is equipped with Delano pickups, which are regarded for their precision and versatility. The split coil pickup in the neck position delivers a warm, vintage tone with deep, throaty lows and a punchy midrange, reminiscent of classic P-bass sounds. The humbucker in the bridge position adds power and growl, perfect for cutting through dense mixes with clarity and definition. Together, these pickups offer a wide range of tonal possibilities, from smooth and mellow to aggressive and biting. In other words you can go from the more classic sound of the single coil to the more powerful and punchy sound on the bridge pickup.

The preamp is Sandberg’s own 2-band EQ Active/Passive, which plays a pivotal part in that classic Sandberg sound.

All in all a really great bass that will make most bass players feel at home after playing their first note on it.

The Greenline series by Sandberg is a commitment to sustainability without compromising quality. These instruments are crafted using eco-friendly practices and materials, ensuring that each bass not only sounds and plays beautifully but also minimizes environmental impact. The use of locally sourced woods and environmentally conscious production methods sets the Greenline series apart. Sandberg select woods with unique character—distinct marks, grains, and colorations—to create more responsible instruments. As part of this sustainable initiative, Sandberg are collaborating with UNITED KIDS FOUNDATIONS FOREST to plant a tree for every Greenline series instrument sold. These trees will be planted locally in the picturesque Harz Mountains.
